Greenall Equals Record with Bratton Down Double

Tom Greenall went onto the 56 winner mark for the season when scoring twice at Bratton Down on Saturday June 7th, equalling his Brother Oliver’s record British total gained last year.

Greenall had three rides at the meeting and was in the winners with both Snake Rave in the Intermediate and Special Portrait in the Restricted. The former needed all of Greenall’s guile and strength to be delivered late to catch long-time leader Lord Fitzroy on the long run for home, prevailing by a head. The record equalling 56th winner of the season was clearer cut, although hard fought all the same. Similarly held up, the grey Special Portrait was one of many in with a chance running to the last. He was the one who climbed the hill the best for a 3 length success.

This took him onto 56 for the year, and means he has every chance of bypassing that total set by younger brother Oliver last year.

SMILES ALL ROUND AS TOM EQUALS BROTHER OLIVER'S RECORD

Away from the Greenall domination, Skyhawk was successful for the second time keeping his 100% record for Dick Baimbridge when winning a competitive Ladies race under Claire Allen. The 8yo In the Wings gelding had been with Diana Williams earlier in the season before her yard was hit with a virus. He then returned to owner Bamper Basterfield before joining Baimbridge for a late campaign.

SKYHAWK CLEARS AWAY

Having been covered up early he made his way through the field to be prominent with a circuit to go. He and main market rival Emile Zola who tracked him all the way looked to have the race between them when going on jumping the last ditch 4 out only for Paddy the Piper to move up ominously before with two to jump. Virtually upsides at the last Paddy the Piper looked a big danger until weakening up the hill as Skyhawk powered on for Allen’s urgings for what was a clear-cut 8 length verdict at the line. This took Allen onto 19 for the season, and cemented her second place behind Polly Gundry in the Ladies title. The Point to Point fraternity have one more opportunity before the summer break with the usual final fixture of the season, The Torrington Farmers meeting at Umberleigh. With Tom Greenall on the record equalling 56 winners for the season, all eyes will be on him to gain the necessary win to put him in the record books.

Look out for a review of the final day next week, before a full season round-up for 2008/09.
